Third Grade Reading List

The purpose of the reading program is to foster an enjoyment of reading, maintain reading skills, and develop the habit of reading on a consistent basis.

The third grade will read the following books during the year.

• Freckle Juice
• Boxcar Children # 1
• Bunnicula
• A Hundred Dresses
• Fables
• Washington’s Birthday
• If You Traveled West in a Covered Wagon
• Sarah Plain and Tall
• Frindle

Please do not read these ahead of time.

Summer Reading

Each student entering third grade is required to read three books over the summer:

All students are required to read The Chalk Box Kid by Clyde Robert Bulla.

All students are to select two books from the following list:

• Horrible Harry Series by Suzy Kline
• Magic Tree House Series by Mary Pope Osborne
• Ramona the Pest and others by Beverly Cleary
• Fudge-a-Mania Series by Judy Blume
• Franny K. Stein Series by Jim Benton
• Marvin Redpost by Louis Sachar
• Judy Moody Series by Megan McDonald
• The Boxcar Children Series by Gertrude C. Warner
• The Magic School Bus Chapter Book Series by Various Authors
• Geronimo Stilton by Geronimo Stilton
