The purpose of the summer reading program is to continue to foster an enjoyment of reading, maintain skills and develop the habit of reading on a consistent basis. Below is a list of recommended books at the fourth grade level. It can be used as a suggested list for summer reading as well as reading throughout the year.
The fourth grade will read The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, By the Great Horn Spoon, Tuck Everlasting, The Whipping Boy, and The Cricket in Time Square as part of the literature program.
Please do not read these books over the summer.
Each student is required to read two books over the summer. One of these required books must be James and the Giant Peach, by Roald Dahl. The second book may be of the student’s choice. Upon the students return to school, we will start our literature program with activities based on our summer reading of James and the Giant Peach.
