Developing oral expression and listening skills
Secondary Goal
Having children develop a sense of responsibility for their actions
Accepting credit for doing something well
Learning to admit when they have done something wrong
Being able to ask for help when needed
The kindergarten curriculum is a social curriculum. The only workbooks we have are for Language Arts, Math, Science, and Religion. We will be writing, reading, observing and actively learning in Science, Religion, Social Studies, Art, and Music.
Kindergarten is the time and place for children to come together, many for the first time, to share space, materials, and ideas. This is when they work on learning to wait, share, take turns, and cooperate with others.
Conflicts that arise are viewed as opportunities to learn and practice important skills.
The children are given directions for what to do in the centers, broken up into small groups and often work independently. This provides time to work in small groups on an activity and give the children more individual attention.
Objectives for each center
Work well with others, shares, take turns
Is able to manage the routine
Makes good use of time
Work independently; begins/completes tasks on time
Puts forth best effort
Cleans up and cares for materials and belongings
Follows instructional directions in group situations
Can solve task problems independently
Letter bags
Children will be assigned to fill a brown paper bag (lunch size) with items that begin with
the letter we are studying that week. They will share the items they brought with the class.
Please help your child with the work but don’t do it for them
For safety purposes, all children must use the bathroom in pairs/buddies. Children may show the sign language with their fingers and ask to go to the bathroom and they will be permitted to go. However, bathroom issues tend to be very disruptive to the rest of the class. So, the kindergarten class is working on using the bathroom at recess and lunch and our scheduled afternoon break (after rest time). If you know your child needs to use the restroom often, please have him or her use the bathroom in the morning before lining up for Morning Assembly.
Please make sure that your student has a healthy snack and lunch every day.
